(it should be said that the next station down the line - 'fencote' - is also fully restored, with working signal box, but unfortunately our back bedroom was not big enough to include it!) inspired by this it was decided to feature 'rowden mill' on the layout as well as the centrepiece 'bromyard' station and surrounding area. as a first attempt we are quite pleased to show off our result to family and friends but would be wary of the lifelong modeller who would surely notice that the ballast is too big a grade for the track (and may have to be re done sometime) among many other things. what go down as the most difficult tasks? no problem answering that one - post and wire fencing. looks so easy when you buy the pack but some evenings later with post, glue and wire all over the place it is the stuff of mental instability. in the end the posts were drilled and the wire painstakingly threaded through with fine tweezers - uugh!! chris will probably say that cutting the corner stones for the scratch built william clarke station buildings rates along with this. nostalgia we are grateful to those who have let us share these great memories news here from australia about the branch and family involvement on the line. john williams has kindly given permission for his e mail and pictures to me to appear here. hello there, my grandfather, edward morris casey was station master at fencote, also at rowden as sm and at bromyard (out of retirement) as sm during ww2. i was born in leominster and my family were friendly with doug chapman a fireman on worcester-leominster line. i remember the last train from worcester-leominster , we were at foregate st to see it. as a boy i remember travelling between leominster and bromyard, sometimes steam sometimes diesel car. now, i have a picture of my grandfather taken in 1917 when at fencote (no uniform) and have in my possession the last ticket (certified) issued from bromyard to rowden mill halt. stayed in bromyard with my cousin back in aug 14 (came out to aus in'56 and never went back until '91) this being my 6th time back. called in and saw ken matthews again. my parents were married at st. peters and their wedding reception at the falcon. my dad's parents came over from wales and bought the old bakery at rowden mill, then later had the one on corner of bromyard's square and worcester road. now an antique shop. in the melbourne suburb of yarraville their are streets named after bromyard people. their is, of course, bromyard, stooke, stanger ( my wife,s sister & her husband lived there), ballard, gent etc. severn st is also around there, in fact there are quite a few down in melb, plus worcester & hereford sts. ironically a couple of days ago i sold some n scale points to a chap who lives in a town called gisborne, a few miles north of melbourne - lives in worcester street. and . . . . derek has given permission for his e mail to me to appear here. i first travelled on the worcester to bromyard line in the nineteen forties as a child. at that time the line continued to leominster via rowden mill, fencote and steens bridge. i was born in alfrick and my grandparents lived there into the 1960's. i used the line between worcester and knightwick (and also leigh court). later in 1958 i married and lived for a year again in alfrick. we both worked in the retail business so had thursday afternoon as half-day closing. at that time there were no convenient buses after a 1 o'clock but there was a train which we used, alighting at knightwick, then walking to alfrick. my one abiding memory of riding in the railcar was of the habit it had of swaying quite a lot. (our hornby version pictured opposite sways too!) another pleasure remembered as a child was when on sunday evenings during ww 2 my father used to take us to henwick station to see the trains go through and to watch the crossing gates open and shut
